Revamped Relics Exhibition
Common Ground
An exhibition by the Pivotal Artists collective, at the Tauranga Community Art Gallery. The theme of common ground within all relationships offered wide scope for artistic interpretation. Options range from the obvious personal relationships - parent, child, sibling - to those which may be less immediately obvious.
All people find the relationships between themselves and others by identifying common ground - whether that causes the sparks to fly or not. Even the aesthetic tensions binding one inanimate object to another are dependent on a relationship. Some of the art on show deals with the obvious interpersonal relationships. Some art here is less obvious and will challenge your perception of what the artist is saying. Relationships are indeed "an inevitable fact of life" but also include the less obvious.
All the Pivotal Artists have a connection to Turning Point Trust, and a contribution from sales will go to support the work of Turning Point Trust's work in Tauranga. The artists here are currently working through complex relationships in their own lives - with family, whanau, wider community. They all explore this in their art, including exploring one which is most important for all of us: the relationship with self.
The Pivotalists make, paint and release their art for you, as audience, to develop new friendships. The art requires the observer to look and be receptive.
